Lors de la catastrophe, la bombe anéantit toute la ville, détruisant ses habitants, sa faune, sa flore et toutes ses structures. Rien ne repoussa du sol calciné sauf un ginkgo, duquel on vit surgir avec stupéfaction des repousses le printemps suivant.
Originaire de Chine, le ginkgo est cultivé là-bas comme un arbre sacré. Les moines du Tibet attribuaient aux décoctions de ses feuilles la même puissance magique qu’avait l’infusion de thé : maintenir l’esprit en éveil lors des longues séances nocturnes de méditation.
Le ginkgo est composé de flavonoïdes ainsi que de lactones terpéniques qui contribuent à améliorer la circulation sanguine, notamment au niveau cérébral. Il représente ainsi une aide dans l’entretien du bien-être mental et de la mémoire. Il contribue aux activités intellectuelles et cognitives.
