What does chasteberry mean?
Chasteberry is a shrub native to the Mediterranean coast. It is therefore found around the Mediterranean basin, as well as in Morocco, where it has been cultivated for many years for the beneficial effects it offers in phytotherapy. This perennial plant is recognized by its small blue flowers and its lanceolate and slightly hairy leaves. But it is for its fruit that chasteberry is so well known.
Chasteberry is known by the Latin name Vitex agnus-castus. Although the word vitex means braiding, in relation to the flexible branches of the plant, agnus castus means something completely different… It can be translated as chaste lamb, which perfectly matches the legend that many religious once used this monk's pepper to calm their ardour! But let's get back to our berries…
How is chasteberry used?
Chasteberry fruits, when fresh, are red. Once dried, they keep longer but also change colour and become black. For the manufacture of food supplements, these dried fruits are reduced to powder to make capsules and tablets. In this way, it is easy to take chasteberry for a wellness cure.
Chasteberry capsules are taken during a short cure (about 2 weeks) at a daily dosage of 500 to 650 mg, at any time of the year. However, it is possible to take chasteberry a few days before the menstrual cycle, in order to best benefit from its beneficial effects. The active ingredients of the plant will thus be able to deploy their full potential.
Directions for use:
2 to 3 capsules per day as part of a balanced diet. Keep out of reach of children.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
Its use in women with a personal or family history of breast cancer is not recommended, nor is its use in pregnant women.
