La bourrache est une plante très reconnaissable par ses fleurs bleues en forme d'étoiles et ses poils courts présents sur l'ensemble de ses tiges. Les fleurs sont comestibles et peuvent notamment se manger en salade ou bien se cuisiner. Les graines sont quant-à-elles très utilisées dans les compléments alimentaires pour leur teneur en acide gras linoléique, acide oléique et acide gamme linolénique.
